It was a black tie event for the RoathCardiff.net team as we were invited to the 2015 Wales Media Awards; a very prestigious event with lots of talented reporters, journalists, photographers and bloggers in one room. We were shortlisted for the Community Outlet Of The Year award alongside The Caerphilly Observer and The Port Talbot Magnet – both excellent hyperlocal outlets.
The team was absolutely thrilled to be there and we were even happier to be sat at a table right underneath Huw Edward’s podium! Huw entertained the crowd with his Bond acting experiences and the “47 seconds” of screen time he has in Skyfall. The man can do comedy that’s for sure!
Throughout the night, incredibly talented people in the news world were awarded for their hard work and when our category was called, I think we all felt like time stood still! Huw described the Community Outlet category as the most exciting award in hyperlocal reporting. The Caerphilly Observer won the award for best Community Outlet but we were delighted for them. At the end of the evening we caught up with our friends at JOMEC and managed to grab Huw for a quick photo opportunity and a video.
He also told us that he lived in Roath for a short while as a student so maybe we will get a Roath People post from him soon? Fingers crossed!
The video below is of Huw and what he thinks of hyperlocal news reporting.
