For a few days I’ve been helping out on location for a new film called The Lighthouse, from Dogs of Annwn. It’s a historical thriller based on the real life tragedy that took place on The Smalls island lighthouse in 1801. Featuring Michael Jibson (Les Mis, The Bank Job, Panic Button) and Mark Lewis-Jones (Stella, Robin Hood, Master and Commander) who play two light keepers who endure an epic storm that changes their lives.
The movie was filmed on location at St Donats, Gileston and Pencoed with a huge indoor lighthouse set built in a warehouse in Cardiff. The indoor set featured a fully furnished lighthouse in which the majority of the filming took place. Behind the indoor lighthouse set was a green screen surround with the exterior of the lighthouse with light, bell and hoists. Both sets were built, painted and furnished to recreate the feel of the early 19th Century.
I took some photos of the set including some of the detailed props and building work but I’m under an embargo in sharing those until the film is out. The video below from BUZZ Magazine covers what went on during the 6 weeks of filming and gives an insight into the extensive production work that took place. The film will be released in 2015.
